Busy little elves…

Busy little elves…

….that’s what Katie and I are moonlighting as at present. We have three big markets coming up where you can come and visit us and the beautiful books we have found.

Firstly we will be at the HUGE Mathilda’s Market this weekend (Sunday 9-1) at Caulfield Racecourse. There will be over 100 stall holders this time making it the biggest ever and if you need presents for children this is the place to be.

Then Katie will be jetting across to Adelaide to the beautiful Magnolia Square Pop Up Event in Norwood. This will be our first at Norwood and we are excited as we know that the City of Churches will love our books.

And finally from the 2nd to the 5th of December we will be at St Kilda Town Hall for the final Magnolia Square of 2010. And yes that right it’s over four incredible days!

So that’s us covered for the next couple of weeks – busy little elves!! We have some exquisite books for this Christmas that we will have at all these events and will also be continuously updating the website. If you can’t get to one of these events, remember that you can email us, jump on facebook or subscribe to our newsletter and chat to us anytime.

Frankie is Heaven

Frankie is Heaven

It’s a happy day when the new issue of Frankie magazine is available. My idea of heaven is having some blissful moments with a cup of coffee and Frankie.

So what a thrill it is for Katie and I to have our blog featured on the Frankie blog today.

We knew Frankie loved the work of UK illustrator and author Robert Hunter, so we sent them some copies of his book Bearly Warm to giveaway. That’s right GIVEAWAY! Head to the Frankie blog for all the details on how to win this unique handcrafted book.

Bearly Warm is the improbable yet absolutely endearing story of an extremely large polar bear who just can’t get warm. When he decides to borrow some clothes from a long washing line in a nearby village, not only does he find that the clothes bearly fit, but that the villagers are bearly happy… What can the villagers do to help a bearly warm bear?

Cleverly playing on the word ‘bearly’ the restrained text relays a poignant story of giving. A snowy landscape and quirky buildings and figures set the backdrop for illustrations of a beautifully expressive bear.

This limited and numbered edition, self-published by UK artist Robert Frank Hunter is a gorgeous book which will more than bearly warm your heart.

We Heart Shinzi

We Heart Shinzi

If you have visited our little store you will have seen the deliciously cute Shinzi Katoh stationery range we stock. Well we love it so much that we have decided to open a separate store dedicated to Shinzi – we heart shinzi.

Shinzi Katoh is a famous Japanese artist based in Aichi where he has his own gallery, shop and museum. His creations are defined as ‘zakka’, being both cute and practical: zakka includes everything and anything that improves your home, life and outlook.

Shinzi has also illustrated thirteen children’s picture books, we love his sweet and quirky drawings. One of his books was chosen for a prestigious Japanese children’s book award. (Unfortunately we have been unsuccessful in sourcing his books in English.) In the 70s, Katoh began creating many designs and plans, working with a variety of mediums.

As well as stationery in the store we have also included bento boxes and drink bottles, all designed with the gorgeous childlike drawings by Shinzi Katoh.

The motto of the Shinzi Katoh range is “It’s the things that make people happy and exist like a comfortable air. That is why we always keep in our heart when we create new design.” And we believe it, his products make us smile every time we use them.
